Florida Car Trip: 6 Excellent Wild Beaches For ASafe Vacation

Against the backdrop of the global pandemic that hit the world, each of us is looking for a way to relax a little. If you like the sea, pleasant weather and sunshine, why not enjoy the wild beaches of Florida? You can pick up a Jeep Wrangler rental in Orlando and easily reach each of them, as an SUV will be the best way to travel around the southern state.

On the wild beach you won’t find Wi-Fi access, volleyball courts or Jet Ski rentals, which promises you complete relaxation and escape from the daily stress. Since there are practically no hidden beaches in Florida, a few of the places below will make it easier for you to find a secluded place on the seashore. So, start the engine of your rental car and go!

Beach on Keewaydin Island

This charming barrier island with the area of 1,300 square kilometers is located southwest of Marco Island in Florida. It can only be reached by boat. But first, you must drive your rental car to Naples, in Collier County.

The island is a kind of hidden refuge, so don’t be surprised to see turtles, sea cows or herons swimming near the peninsula. On weekends, you will always find several boats moored to the shore and people sunbathing on the beach and swimming in warm water. Alternatively, you can enjoy a ten-minute descent downstream and return back to the beach, enjoying the beauty of the wild. But be careful as the water flow is very strong.

If you are unable to rent a boat in Naples, visit Tigertail Beach, park and north of Marco Island. After two miles, you will find yourself on a silvery sandy spit, where there’s nothing but the endless expanse of the bay and the azure breeze.

Anna Beach

Although the Florida Keys are famous for their soft waves and sleepless nights, there’re not many public beaches on them. Don’t worry, about halfway between Key Largo and Key West you’ll find one of Florida’s wild beaches hidden under an overpass. Named after environmentalist Anna Iten, Anna Beach has two small but free car parks, a shallow water area, picnic tables and a swimming area.

Most importantly, this family-friendly beach gives drivers with children a chance to relax and stretch their legs as they drive to Key West.

Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park

Jump into your rental car and come to this small, unsettled beach on the southern outskirts of Key Biscayne for sunbathing and epic sunsets. Consider renting a bike and exploring the local trails, as each new location offers stunning and unique views of Miami.

Also, you can find the Miami Lighthouse, which is the oldest building in South Florida and gaze up to the skyline for Stiltsville, a collection of historic houses that seem to float on the surface of Biscayne Bay.

Sanibel Island

Sanibel Island is located near Fort Myers in the Gulf of Mexico. It’s connected with the mainland by a wide highway. The island is an ideal holiday destination for families with children and wildlife lovers. Most of the Sanibel Island is occupied by vast tropical forests. There are wide sandy beaches along the coast, where you can not only sunbathe, but also collect beautiful shells.

Now Sanibel is home to about 7,000 residents. The island is believed to have been a pirate colony in the past. While staying there, don’t forget to visit the historical museum, botanical garden, arts center and an old lighthouse.

Blowing Rocks Preserve

Located in southeastern Florida on Jupiter Island, Blowing Rocks Nature Reserve stretches for a mile and is a stone beach of limestone. When a strong east wind blows and catches high waves, jerking them up, you might think that a geyser is opening to your eyes. If the sea is calm, you can hike through four biomes: sand dunes, coastline, marshlands and subtropical rainforest known as hammock. Entrance to the reserve will cost 8 USD per person.

Bahia Honda State Park

This is a unique place in the Florida Keys with extensive sandy beaches, combining a lagoon with pleasant shallow water near the coast and the area with sufficient depth for snorkeling nearby. Such conditions are perfect not only for a secluded holiday, but for families with children. Also, guests of the park can take an exciting trip along the waterfront of Bahia Honda State Park by kayak or canoe.

Another experience available at the park is an unforgettable walk along the nature trails, which will give you an excellent chance to admire the surrounding natural beauty.
